- Text
A text question type prompts the respondent to enter information using the onscreen text keyboard. E.g., what is your favorite color? (field where user can enter the text ‘purple’).
Tips
The Text question type will automatically expand onto multiple lines for long text answers. The app supports text answers up to 1000 characters. You have the option of choosing the Min and Max Character answer length.
2. Email
An email question type prompts the respondent to enter a valid email address using the onscreen text keyboard.
Tips
Tick the Answer Required checkbox if you want to the respondent to enter a valid email before proceeding to the next question.
3. Numeric
A numeric question type prompts the respondent to enter numbers using the onscreen numeric keyboard. E.g., how many times have you visited? (field where user can enter the digits ‘25’).
Tips
- Select a decimal place option if you want to the respondent to enter a whole number of a number followed by your specified number of decimal places.
- The prefix and suffix text can be used to optionally customize the text that is displayed before and after the response textbox a valid email before proceeding to the next question.
4. Single Select
A single select question type prompts the respondent to choose a single answer from a predefined set of answers or selectable options. E.g., which of these colors is your favorite color? (choose one).
In Single Select question you can use Display Images option to set answers as selectable images instead of text options. Click the Change image button to upload your custom answer image. If you would like to fit more images on a single screen, tick the Small Images checkbox.
Tips
Tick the Randomize checkbox if you want to the app to randomize the order of the answers each time this question is displayed.

- Multi Select
A multi select question type prompts the respondent to choose one or more answers from a predefined set of answers or selectable images. E.g., which of these colors do you like? (choose as many as apply).
The Single Select and Multi Select question types support the option of adding an “Other” or “None of the Above” answer. Both include an option for allowing the user to enter a free text entry using the keyboard.
The app will automatically deselect all other answers when the “None of the Above” answer is selected in a multi select question type. By comparison, the app will NOT automatically de-select all other answers if an “Other” answer is selected.
- Grid Single Select
A grid single select question type prompts the respondent to select radio buttons within a grid of multiple questions displayed on a single tablet screen. Click the Add Statement button to add a new statement. Click the Add Rating button to add a new rating. Statements and ratings text can be customized, re-ordered by drag and drop or deleted by clicking the red x icon.

The Grid Single Select question type is displayed only tablet devices. If this question is loaded onto a phone device the question will be skipped over.
- Grid – Multi Select
A grid multi select question type prompts the respondent to select check boxes within a grid of multiple questions displayed on a single tablet screen. Click the Add Statement button to add a new statement. Click the Add Rating button to add a new rating. Statements and ratings text can be customized, re-ordered by drag and drop or deleted by clicking the red x icon.

- Grid Scale
A grid scale question type prompts the respondent to select a position along multiple scales displayed within a grid on a single tablet screen.

- Scale
A scale question type prompts the respondent to select a value along a continuous scale or slider.
Tips
Tick the Display Slider Value checkbox if you would like the question to show the position of the slider with a numeric value.
- Interval Scale
An interval scale question type prompts the respondent to select an interval along a sub-divided scale or slider. Display optional smiley is or upload your own images. E.g., Using the scale provided (e.g., very satisfied, satisfied, neutral, dissatisfied, very dissatisfied), please rate your satisfaction with the following.
- Information
An information screen is a separate text screen inserted between questions. The information screen can be used to display additional information to the respondent
Tips
The information screen does not require any input from the respondent.
- Image
- The image screen displays a static image with optional information text. Click the Change image button to upload your custom image.
Tips
Tick the Image Above Text checkbox if you want to display the uploaded image above your text.
- Video
The video question type displays a video and optional information text to a survey respondent. The app supports playing a MP4 video up to a 100 MB while the device is offline.

- Date and Time
The date and time question type prompts the respondent to select a date, a time or a data and time from the picker.
Tips
Tick the Set date/time default checkbox if you want to display the picker with a default date / time. The picker will display today’s date / time by default.
- Signature
The signature question type prompts the respondent to sign.
Tips
Tick the Answer Required checkbox if you want to the respondent to sign before proceeding.
- Photo Capture
A photo capture question type prompts the respondent to take a photograph on camera equipped devices.
Tips
This question type is skipped on devices without a camera.
- Barcode
The barcode scanner question type prompts the respondent to scan a barcode or QR Code on camera equipped devices.
IMPORTANT
For best results we recommend the bar code scanner question type is only used on iPhone 4, 4S, 5 and iPad 3 devices and Android devices with autofocus cameras. Devices with low quality cameras are likely to struggle scanning bar codes and are better suited to scanning QR Codes.
If you have difficultly scanning a barcode, tap the keyboard icon below the barcode scanner to enter the code manually.

Tips

- Dropdown
A dropdown question type prompts the respondent to choose a single answer from a large list. This question type supports up to 10,000 answers that can be preloaded into the dropdown control. The respondent can quickly filter the list by keyword search and then select an answer. The search algorithm matches keywords anywhere within the answer text. Alternatively, the respondent can scroll through the entire list of answers and select an answer.
- Ranking
The Ranking question type allows you to display a list of items that respondents can place into their order of preference. Respondents can compare items containing text or images and move them into a ranked order by dragging and dropping. They can also add or remove an item by tapping it with their finger.
Tips
This feature is only available on Apple devices.
- GPS
The GPS Question type displays the longitude, latitude, altitude, and location accuracy of a respondent’s mobile device. It has been designed for users who need to collect highly accurate GPS data at a specific stage within their survey.
This question type can be set up with a specified accuracy level that the respondent must reach before they can continue to the next question. The GPS location and accuracy is displayed to the respondent in real time. The accuracy status is visually represented by the GPS icon flashing red when there is inadequate accuracy through to amber and finally green when the minimum required accuracy level is reached.
The GPS question is currently supported on Android devices only. It is ideal for projects where the data collector needs to view the GPS data within the survey.
Tips
- This feature is only available on Android devices.
- A survey can be set up to capture the GPS location on iOS devices. This option captures the GPS data at the end of each survey rather than at a specific point within the survey. It also captures the GPS data in the background and the respondent does not see the longitude, latitude, altitude, and accuracy data during the survey. See GPS survey options for more information.
- Scoring
Your survey design can be set up with optional scoring that assigns a numeric score to each answer.
Scoring is supported in the following question types:
- Single Select
- Multi Select
- Grid Single Select
- Grid Multi Select
- Grid Scale
- Interval
- Ranking
The scoring feature is useful for creating a quiz. For example, a single select question can be set up with a score of 1 for the correct answer and the remaining incorrect answers set to a score of 0.

Scoring can be downloaded with your survey results. See Show Advanced CSV options for more information.
- Short Name
The Short Name feature enables you to display a short question name in the excel spreadsheet containing your survey results. Typical survey designs contain long question text. When you download your survey results the full questions text is included by default. If you prefer to work with shorter question names you can enter a Short Name for each question in your survey design. When you download your results, please select the Display Short Name in place of Question Text option under the advanced settings.
